Kamille Jackson
Biography:
Hello! I am an interdisciplinary artist from Northern Virginia. I create mixed media pieces, write, and research. I am now an MFA student in my second year at George Washington University’s Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. Before returning to school, I spent a few years doing illustration and design work, freelancing, and retail after graduating with a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. I also really got into zines. I have exhibited work at the Torpedo Factory, the Anderson Gallery, Gallery 5, Studio 23, Bronx Art Space, along with other venues.
Statement:
My interdisciplinary practice is rooted in writing and visual work, which both aim to excavate my shadow self, relationships to place, and art or design research. My visual work often takes the form of mixed media abstractions of landscapes and architecture. I utilize grids, alter Americana references, and play with queer motifs in an effort to present a vital imagination through disorientation, an imagination used for those deemed as “other” to step into when navigating hegemony or dominant culture.
