Nathalie Gauvin
I have been making collages throughout the years, and have enjoyed losing myself in the process. Seeing an image reveal itself to me is so wonderful, I am sure many understand this very private feeling of discovering what the unconscious has in store. But I have not made a living out of this, my line of work is singing. Until now. I performed for 23 years in Las Vegas and had the tremendous chance of being a part of the creation of the show Mystère by Cirque du Soleil in 1993. And then signing in Le rêve at the Wynn Resort until 2016. I have studied film and jazz and performed in art galleries and small theatrical venues, plays birthed from group improvisation. All these fields of expression combined gave fertile soil for creation. I love the phrase in French: vases communicants = communicating vessels. All forms of art are interconnected. Creating in general is freedom.
I am now back in my hometown, Montreal and very happy to be here. The current situation is bringing me to follow my bliss so that I can be mentally and emotionally joyful and calm. A lot of people are struggling and we cannot afford to put more weight on the present atmosphere. Live performance and performers are suffering at the moment and this is probably one of the areas where most care is needed. Thanks to platforms like this one that reach out and help in promoting art. With hope that leaders follow in this footstep to help « l’art de la scène » = performing arts. I trust that by creating in this way, I will find what is next in my life, because one thing leads to another, and keeping the juices flowing is really the answer.
