This painting is Fiori Freschi  #13, from March 2020 . It is a mixed media piece on a 12" x 36" wood panel.

Fiori Freschi means Fresh Flowers in Italian.  As I was creating this piece, Italy was in lockdown due to the Coronavirus.  Things felt very heavy all around the world. This series expresses a lightheartedness that I was needing to feel during the dismal days of March 2020.  Though the world felt dismal, March in Vancouver is unbeatable.  Buds blooming, cherry blossoms sprouting and loads of colour.  The flowers show us that beauty exists and that new growth is possible.  I was reminded that the simple act of going for a walk and enjoying the fresh flowers is not to be taken for granted. The writings included on this piece, say Must Have Flowers and Open Your Eyes reminding us to enjoy the simple beauty that exists around us everyday.  I have included a number of other pieces that are part of this series.  They vary in size from 6" squares up to 12" x 36".

I am a mixed media artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.  I love to create depth by layering my paintings with colour, texture, collage, inks, acrylics and pens.  I predominantly work on wood panels as I find the sturdy surface works better for mixed media art.  My pieces are often soft, loose, and flowing, stemming from my love of yoga and movement.  I have not attended any formal art school but have taken a number of courses that have helped me to develop my own style.
