Alison Klymchuk
Alison’s process “of the moment” is an active and instinctual reaction to pre-pandemic patterns. She paints over her monochromatic series with a vibrant red, finding a new perspective in a former vision. Her present time in isolation is an opportunity to reflect on the past in order to inspire a spirit of change and resilience in the future.
Alison Klymchuk is a multidisciplinary artist from Toronto, Ontario. She currently lives on Vancouver Island, where she is studying towards a BFA at the University of Victoria. Her practice focuses on the expansion of drawing and painting. She transforms the two-dimensional through her continuous experimentation with new methods and material combinations. Alison seeks to create a novel viewing experience through her rejection of the flattened picture plane. She initiates engagement with her works by skewing perception, which animates movement in the observer. Activity is an essential component of her process. Movement is synonymous to experimentation, change, and growth. Alison embraces her primal curiosities; she builds her own mark-making tools, replaces paintbrushes with everyday objects, and tests the mobility of her body when applying substances onto a surface. Challenging, questioning and chasing the unknown is her driving force. By rupturing deeply embedded systems and patterns, Alison calls for movement, awareness and action, and inspires a collective change in perspective
